Budzinski Votes Against Partisan Continuing Resolution, Pushes for Bipartisan Government Funding Deal
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Congresswoman Nikki Budzinski (IL-13) joined every Democrat and 21 of her Republican colleagues in rejecting a partisan continuing resolution that would have made crippling 30 percent budget cuts to most federal agencies. Budzinski has joined her fellow freshman Democrats and her colleagues on the New Democrat Coalition in repeated calls for a bipartisan agreement to keep the government open and funded. She released the following statement on today’s vote:
“In a divided government, working across the aisle isn’t just the right thing to do, it’s our duty to the American people. Unfortunately, Speaker McCarthy is refusing to work with House Democrats on a bipartisan agreement to keep our government open and operational because he’s afraid it would cost him his leadership role. My constituents deserve a hell of a lot better than these political games,” said Congresswoman Budzinski. “Today, I joined colleagues on both sides of the aisle to reject crippling budget cuts that would harm working families across Central and Southern Illinois. I urge the Speaker to stop allowing the most extreme voices in Congress to hold our government hostage, and to bring a bipartisan bill to the floor that will keep our government running.”
