Budzinski Statement on Need for Bipartisan Israel Supplemental
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, U.S. Representatives Nikki Budzinski (IL-13) released the following statement on her vote with 194 Democrats and two Republicans against Speaker Johnson’s supplemental appropriations bill, which ties aid to Israel with harmful budget cuts to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) that would increase the federal deficit by $12.5 billion over ten years:
“As we face a crisis in the Middle East, Congress must pass a bipartisan package that supports our allies in Israel and provides humanitarian assistance to innocent civilians in Gaza. The legislation put forward by Speaker Johnson fails to meet the needs of this moment.
“I’m deeply disappointed that the Speaker has chosen to respond to the terrorist attacks in Israel with a partisan approach that conditions American aid with irresponsible budget cuts while ignoring needs in Gaza. We have to do better.
“I urge Speaker Johnson to bring forward a comprehensive bill that protects our national security with resources for our southern border, provides aid to address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and supports our allies and partners in Israel, Ukraine and Taiwan.”
