WASHINGTON — Today, Congresswoman Nikki Budzinski (IL-13) released the following statement applauding news that the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will allow summer sales of E15. The emergency waiver issued by the EPA will extend access to cleaner, more affordable fuel and ensure consumers have more choices at the gas pump.

“Blending our fuel with homegrown ethanol reduces our dependence on foreign oil, supports good-paying jobs in the Heartland and saves consumers money at the gas pump. I applaud the Environmental Protection Agency for allowing summer sales of E15 and I look forward to continuing my work with colleagues on the bipartisan House Biofuels Caucus to ensure that this cleaner and more affordable fuel option is available to consumers year-round in the years to come.”

Congresswoman Budzinski is a cosponsor of the bipartisan Consumer and Fuel Retailer Choice Act, which would enable the year-round, nationwide sale of ethanol blends higher than 10%, helping to lower fuel prices and improve stability and certainty in the U.S. fuel market. Budzinski has also joined a bipartisan letter to the EPA and the Office of Management and Budget to encourage year-round ethanol sales by removing the 1-psi volatility waiver on gasoline-ethanol blends.
