Budzinski Announces $450,000 for St. Louis Downtown Airport
CAHOKIA HEIGHTS, IL — Today, Congresswoman Nikki Budzinski (IL-13) announced that the St. Louis Downtown Airport in Cahokia Heights, Illinois will receive $450,000 in federal funding from the Federal Aviation Administration to fund the design of a new terminal building. The funding was announced through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law’s Airport Terminals Program.
“The St. Louis Downtown Airport is one of the busiest airports in our region and a critical driver of economic growth in the Metro East,” said Congresswoman Budzinski. “I’m thrilled to see $450,000 from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law headed to kickstart the design of a brand-new terminal at this local hub. These resources will be a critical component of efforts to modernize the airport and its role in the region.”
“We are pleased to learn about the FAA announcement about the grant award for the design of a new terminal at St. Louis Downtown Airport,” said Mary Lamie, Executive Vice President of Multi Modal Enterprises at Bi-State Development. “Our current airport terminal is 40 years old and in need of replacement. We want the new airport terminal to serve as a welcoming front door for businesses and developers expanding in the bi-state region.”
This award will fund the design of the new terminal building. The existing structure was built in 1980 and has met its useful life. The new, modern terminal will meet current building codes including ADA compliance and improved energy efficiency, and better support the current and future demand of the airport. This award also includes funds for the construction of a new bus stop, which provides access to the Metro transit system and better meets the needs of airport users.
The Airport Terminals Program is one of three aviation programs created by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. The law provides $1 billion annually over five years for Airport Terminal Program grants. In total, the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law provided a historic $25 billion to modernize our country’s airport infrastructure.
