Budzinski Votes to Pass Bipartisan Tax Package
WASHINGTON, D.C. — This evening, Congresswoman Nikki Budzinski (IL-13) released the following statement on her vote with 187 Democrats and 169 Republicans to pass the Relief for American Workers Act, bipartisan tax legislation that delivers critical wins for working families and small businesses in Central and Southern Illinois.
“Tonight, I joined colleagues on both sides of the aisle to pass a bipartisan tax package that will make meaningful changes to the tax code to better support working families,” said Congresswoman Budzinski. “With an expansion of the Child Tax Credit and the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit, we were able to work together to help families keep more of what they earn in the face of high costs. In fact, it’s estimated that 16 million children will benefit from this package in the coming year – including 44,000 across Illinois’ 13th Congressional District. This bipartisan package will also strengthen our economy by restoring research and development tax benefits that drive innovation at our local manufacturers and research universities.”
“Today’s vote demonstrates the important progress we can make when Democrats and Republicans work together to find common ground. I look forward to continued work with colleagues across the aisle to make a difference for working people in Central and Southern Illinois,” continued Budzinski.
The Joint Economic Committee estimates that the expansion of the Child Tax Credit included in the Relief for American Workers Act will benefit 16 million children nationwide – including more than 587,000 in Illinois and 44,000 in Illinois’ 13th Congressional District. The legislation is also estimated to support the building of 200,000 new affordable homes through the expansion of the Low Income Housing Tax Credit.
