WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congresswoman Nikki Budzinski (IL-13) voted against a Continuing Resolution that would provide additional funding for the Department of Homeland Security, citing ongoing failures in leadership, accountability, and public safety.

“The American people have witnessed firsthand the deadly consequences of mismanagement and a complete lack of accountability at DHS. That must change now. Congress has a responsibility to ensure that federal agencies protect public safety and uphold the rule of law,” said Budzinski. “In light of the deaths of two American citizens by DHS officers, that responsibility is undeniable. I cannot authorize a single additional dollar for this department until meaningful, enforceable reforms are implemented.”

Last month, Congresswoman Budzinski also voted against the DHS funding bill for Fiscal Year 2026 after it failed to include critical reforms that Democrats demanded. In addition to today’s vote, Budzinski is a cosponsor of articles of impeachment for DHS Secretary Kristi Noem, as well as the No Secret Police Act, and the Stop Excessive Force in Immigration Act. If taken together, these bills would ban the use of masks by ICE officers, require the use of body cameras, and restrict the use of excessive force when safer alternatives exist.
