WASHINGTON — Tonight, Congresswoman Nikki Budzinski released the following statement after voting for the bipartisan debt limit deal made between President Joe Biden and Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy and House Republicans.

“I’m encouraged that despite deep divisions, Republicans and Democrats have been able to come together to do the right thing and ensure we avoid a devastating default on our nation’s debt. While the deal struck between President Biden and Speaker McCarthy is not perfect, neither side can expect to get everything they want in a divided Congress. The compromise that we passed tonight ensures that the government can keep paying its bills through the next two years, and it protects critical funding for veterans’ programs and infrastructure investments that are essential for communities in Central and Southern Illinois. I’m hopeful that this agreement will help us continue to make progress on solutions to our nation’s most pressing issues.”
