Budzinski Kicks Off Term with Bipartisan Vote to Bolster Competition with China

WASHINGTON — Today, Congresswoman Nikki Budzinski joined her Republican colleagues in a vote to establish a new House Select Committee on China. The new Select Committee will be charged with investigating the economic and security challenges posed by the Chinese Communist Party to ensure that the United States is well-positioned to compete.

“When I ran for Congress, I pledged to come to the House Floor and work across the aisle to get things done for the people of Central and Southern Illinois,” said Congresswoman Budzinski. “With today’s vote, I’m making good on that promise and working to promote competition with one of our nation’s greatest geopolitical threats. I’m hopeful that this new Select Committee will generate bipartisan solutions to bolster our national security and protect our economic advantage over China.”

Following today’s bipartisan vote, the House Select Committee on China will begin to investigate, submit policy recommendations and hold public hearings on the status of the Chinese Communist Party’s economic, technological and security progress and its competition with the United States.

Congresswoman Budzinski will monitor the Committee’s progress and continue to look for opportunities to work in a bipartisan manner with her colleagues in the majority.
