EAST ST. LOUIS — Today, Congresswoman Nikki Budzinski (IL-13) held a roundtable with women veterans in East St. Louis to discuss a wide range of issues from access to health care and mental health care to challenges with Military Sexual Trauma (MST) and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

“As the grandchild of two World War II veterans, I grew up understanding the deep debt of gratitude we owe to those who’ve served our nation in the armed forces. And as a member of the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, I’m committed to ensuring they have access to the benefits they’ve earned and deserve,”said Congresswoman Budzinski. “I’m so grateful to everyone who came together today to discuss the unique challenges faced by women veterans here in Central and Southern Illinois and across the country. I look forward to taking their stories and ideas with me to Washington as I work to improve access to health care and mental health resources for our nation’s veterans.”

Earlier this year, Congresswoman Budzinski convened the first meeting of her Veterans Advisory Council, which is made up of local veterans, active duty servicemembers and stakeholders from across Central and Southern Illinois. Budzinski is a member of the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, which is tasked with overseeing the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and advancing legislation to improve veterans’ benefits.
