WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Nikki Budzinski (IL-13) voted to pass legislation to extend the ACA Enhanced Premium Tax Credits, which are essential to helping millions of Illinoisans afford healthcare. The legislation only reached the floor under a procedural maneuver that united House Democrats and four Republicans on a “discharge petition” to force a vote. The bill now heads to the Senate for further consideration.

“Democrats refused to back down until we secured a commitment for a vote on the ACA tax credits – and I’m proud to say our pressure worked. Today’s vote is the result of months of advocacy by millions across the country and in my district who demanded action,” said Budzinski. “Extending these tax credits is essential to keeping families insured and sparing them impossible choices about their health and finances. I’m calling on Senate Republicans and President Trump to finally put the American people first and extend this lifeline.”

Congresswoman Budzinski has worked tirelessly to press Republicans in Congress to extend these critical tax credits. In October, Budzinski met with constituents in her district whose premium notices showed increases of at least $500 per month, underscoring the urgent need for action. When a Continuing Resolution came before the House that failed to include an extension of the tax credits, Budzinski demanded better for her community and voted no. She later signed onto the discharge petition that ultimately forced Speaker Johnson to bring this bill to the House floor for a vote.
